My name is Florence and I would be honoured to be your Med-3 Rep for the upcoming year alongside my colleague and good friend Justin Desroches. Clerkship (because yes, as weird as it may sound we will be actual clerks next year…) may be very lonely at times. As your class representatives, our goal will be to make sure to give you as many opportunities as possible to come together to have fun, relax and share your experiences. May it be smaller gatherings to foster support amongst peers or larger scale events to celebrate the end of a rotation, we want to give every student the chance to participate in something that will please them!
I believe I would be suited for this position since I have had the chance to take on different leadership roles in the student life in the past years such as VP Community Service and Involvement on the MDSA executive council (Med-P/Dent-P Students Association), Med-1 Rep on the 2019 class council and VP Social Affairs on the MSS executive council. Through these experiences, I have come to acquire skills and knowledge that are key to the role of class representative. Although I value experience, I also think that innovation is very important and so here are a few of our ideas:
– Monthly get-togethers so that you have frequent opportunities to check-in with your classmates
– Create a common platform (ex: Google doc) where people can write their tips and tricks for the following students after completing a rotation
– Advocate within the MSS general council so that events such as Chez Meredith, InterNos, MedGames, etc. are “clerk friendly” in terms of scheduling, accessibility and advertisement.
Clerkship will be filled with challenges, happy and less happy times, ups and downs, but in the end we will make sure that you have the support system to make the best out of it!
